Préférence, the popular card game with the distinctly French name, was actually first played at the beginning of the 19th century in Vienna. It has since enjoyed widespread popularity in a number of countries.
Employ the right tactics and you’ll bag yourself a big pile of Twists. Gaming fun and tension in equal measures are guaranteed when you play Préférence. So why not give it a go!
The game is played by three players with a deck of 32 cards in four suits: Clubs, Spades, Diamonds and Hearts (French cards) or Acorns, Leaves, Bells and Hearts (German cards).
The value of the cards in ascending order is as follows: 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace (French cards) or 7, 8, 9, 10, Unter, Ober, King and Ace (German cards). At the start of the game each player receives 10 cards and 2 cards form the blind.
An auction is held next to determine which player will play alone against the other two players. During this bidding phase the contract to be played is also decided.
The aim of the game depends on the contract. Nevertheless, in most of the contracts the team must attempt to prevent the single player from taking tricks or reaching his/her goal.
