How to play

A game can be opened by clicking on the button “New Game“. A window appears which specifies who may participate at the table just opened. The maximum skill level of an opponent and the number of opponents (2-4) must also be selected, like the number of rounds to be won in order to win the game.

The settings also have to specify whether a Trump card can be traded or not. This rule is from Brisca, the Spanish version of the game. This function is only activated if all the players agree. If it is activated the 7 can be traded for the10, 11, 12, 1 or 3, or the 2 can be traded for the 4, 5, 6 or 7. Moreover, players can decide whether it is possible to play for a draw. This is a rule from Briscola, the Italian version of the game. Players have the option of playing according to both Brisca and Briscola rules. This means that they can activate both sets of rules, which means they play a mix of both versions. If you determine that a Trump card can be traded, but it is not possible for a round to end in a draw, you are playing Brisca. If however, you decide to allow a draw, but not trading a Trump card, you are playing Briscola. Players are also allowed to participate in another player’s game.

During the game you see your own cards spread out on the table in front of you. By clicking/ double clicking on a card, you can place the card in the middle of the table. A yellow arrow shows whose players turn it is. A red exclamation mark means that it is your turn.

Rules

Brisca/Briscola is a card game for 2 to 4 players. At the start of the game, each player receives 3 cards. The rest of the cards are placed face-down on a pile. The uppermost card is turned over and placed under the pile in such a way that half of it remains visible. This card shows which suit is Trumps.

The object of the game is to win as many points as possible by taking tricks. The values of the cards in a trick should of course be as high as possible. The player to the dealer’s right opens the game. The winner of one round always opens the next by playing a card. You can play any card you wish. There is no compulsion to follow suit.

Once all cards have been played, the player with the highest card wins the trick. A Trump card automatically wins a trick. If more than one Trump card is played, the Trump card with the highest value wins. At the end of one trick and before the start of a new trick, the winner may draw a card from the pile. The other players may then draw cards counter-clockwise. In the last round the last player then draws the Trump card.

The winner of the game is the player who wins the number of rounds specified at the beginning. If e.g. three rounds were selected, a player must play three rounds in order to win. If one of the rounds ends in a draw, none of the players win that round.
