Pachisi: Instructions
A new game can be started by simply clicking "New Game". The player may then define a number of settings to determine who may join the game (Any, Friends or Invited) as well as the opponents’ skill level. Alternatively, the player may join a game that has been set up by another player.
To roll the die, the player must click on the button "Roll". To move a piece, the player need only click on the desired piece itself. Alternatively, the piece can be dragged and dropped into position. The stones that can be moved in a given turn are highlighted.
Rules
Pachisi is a board game for 2 to 4 players. Each player receives 4 playing pieces of the same colour. Each player rolls one die at the start of the game to determine who goes first (the player who rolls the highest number starts).
Players take turns rolling and moving their pieces around the board. Players can jump over squares containing their own and other players’ pieces, but these squares are also counted as part of the move. If a player has more than one piece on the board, he or she can move any one of them.
If a piece stops on a square containing another player's piece, the opponent’s piece is knocked out of play and goes back to "Home". However, knocking out the piece of an opponent is not mandatory. As long as there are still pieces in "Home", the player has to get them out by rolling a 6. If the first square is occupied by another player's piece, it is knocked out. If the first square is occupied by one of the player's own playing pieces, this has to be moved first using the 6. If a player rolls a 6, and there are no more pieces in "Home", the player can move any of his/her pieces and then roll again. If a player brings the last piece into the home stretch by rolling a 6, he/she cannot roll again.
A player who rolls a 6 gets to roll again after moving. If the player again rolls a 6, he/she can roll again after finishing the second turn.
Once a piece has completed a circuit around the board, it can be moved onto the squares of the same colour on the home stretch. These squares are also counted individually. If there are already pieces on the home stretch, it is possible to ‘jump’ over them.
If a player has no more pieces in play because they have all been knocked out and sent back to "Home", the player is allowed to roll 3 times. This also applies if one or more pieces are on the home stretch, but only if these cannot be moved any further.
The first player to get all 4 pieces on the squares of the home stretch wins. The other players continue playing for 2nd and 3rd place.
Points
There are no points involved in this game. Only the result of the game, i.e. who won/lost, is important.
